Here I am in the fall of my life, and I still don’t understand my personal style. I know what I like, but I really can’t tell you why. I feel I need to develop “a look” now that I have written a book and hope to promote my brand.
I remember my mom talking about her love for fashion. She loved stylish suits and sweaters, and she loved hats. I have no memory of her wearing the styles she spoke of because these were her fashion memories before she married my dad. During my time with mom, she had little money to shop for what she loved. My dad held the money in an iron fist, and what little mom received she had to beg for, I remember that painfully well.
I remember wearing bell-bottoms, hip huggers, tube tops, and mini shirts when I was a teen. I was most definitely a child of the ’70s. When I was in college, working on my nursing degree, I was at the same time a married woman. We lived in a trailer in the woods and had very little money. The clothing I had was distressed. I had holes in my jeans and hand-me-down shirts. I was lucky that I was not judged too harshly during my early college days; frayed and distressed jeans were in style, and due to that, so was I.
Recently I have taken a Master Class on discovering your fashion style. After a few classes and searching for style trends on Google, I have narrowed down my style. I believe that I am Classic Casual and Chic Casual with an occasional, mild, BoHo twist.
According to my MasterClass instructor, I need to start growing my style. That will mean research and trips to the mall. This style adventure sounds like fun to me. I can’t wait to get started.
